What is an erweiterte Meldebescheinigung and why does the au pair need it?

What lies behind it

The erweiterte Meldebescheinigung is an official document issued by the Meldebehörde (registration office). It confirms not only the host family's home address, but can also contain additional information.

For the au pair's Botschaftstermin, it is important that the erweiterte Meldebescheinigung lists all children under 18 living in the household.

This allows the embassy in the au pair's home country to officially verify that at least one minor child actually lives in the chosen host family and that an important requirement for the au pair stay is therefore met.

Important: a simple Meldebescheinigung is usually not sufficient for this, as it generally only confirms the registered home address. When applying for the erweiterte Meldebescheinigung, you should therefore expressly ask for the children under 18 registered in the household to be included.

The document is then made available to the au pair for the visa documents or for the Botschaftstermin.
