You decide in your own time

If you do nothing further after these twenty minutes, nothing further happens — no chasing, no deadline, no second message.

  • Nobody comes to your home.
  • There is no deadline by which you must get in touch.
  • The next step comes from you — or it does not come at all.

Families in your situation are often pressured elsewhere. Not by us.

Process

What we talk about in these twenty minutes

Three parts in a fixed order: your child, the process, and at the end 5 minutes for your questions.

See the whole process on Services (in German)

  1. Appointment and questionnaireCalendar, confirmation, questionnaire, your own area. What is discussed: You choose an appointment in the calendar. You receive an appointment confirmation. Seconds later a second email arrives with the link to the family questionnaire. The questionnaire should be filled in before the call. Once you have submitted it, your own host-family area is unlocked — with your email address and a password you set yourself. What is not required here: No documents. No certificates. No signature. The four documents a placement later needs only come once you have decided on a particular au pair. (Before, before the appointment)
  2. You tell us about your childYour day, your child, who else is around. What is discussed: What a normal day looks like for you. What your child needs and what comes easily. What is hard in everyday life. Who else is around — siblings, a school companion, therapies, grandparents. And what should change once someone is living in the house. You decide how much you tell us. What is not asked here: No medical reports. No list of diagnoses to read out. No Pflegegrad (long-term care level) notice. The type of disability is already in the questionnaire — the call is about your child, not about their paperwork. (First part, the longer one)
  3. We explain how it worksSelection, duration, tasks, costs, your obligations. What is discussed: How you find an au pair — through the gallery, through applications to your questionnaire, or through suggestions from the team. How long a placement takes. What an au pair takes on in everyday life and what expressly not: no nursing care, no medical tasks, no medication. What it costs and when. And which obligations fall to you — registration, insurance, language course: we tell you what needs to be done; which contract you choose is your decision. What does not happen here: No contract. No signature. No payment. No recommendation for an insurer, a bank or a language school. No promise that a particular au pair will be found for you — the choice is always yours in the end. (Second part, the process)
  4. Five minutes for your questionsAnything unresolved. Including the uncomfortable. What is discussed: Anything that is still open. Including what might feel impolite to ask: whether this can even work with a child like yours, what happens if it does not work out, what you do if you are employed and nobody is there to guide the au pair. What cannot be answered here: Whether a funding body will cover your costs. We are a placement agency, not an advice centre. On funding we can point to the possibility of the Persönliches Budget (personal budget, a German disability-support allowance) — advising on it is something we neither may nor wish to do. (Third part, firmly scheduled)
  5. AfterwardsYour area is open. Nothing else. What is discussed: You have access to your host-family area and can look around at your own pace. You can approach candidates if you wish. You can get in touch weeks later. You get in touch whenever it suits you. (After, after the call)

Five stations: one before, the three parts of the call, one afterwards.

Why 20 minutes are enough

The family questionnaire deals with the formalities beforehand: family details, preferred period, living situation, diet, pets, desired language skills. What is left for the call is what fits into no form — what your child is like and what they need.

What you need to bring: nothing. No printout, no notes, no prepared questions.

Before the appointment

What the questionnaire asks beforehand

8 areas, free of charge and without obligation. Tap on an area to see what it covers.

After submitting, your host-family area is unlocked: with your email address and a password you set yourself.

External appointment booking, opens in a new window. As of: Juli 2026.

Doubts

Common thoughts before the first message

Six reasons keep families from sending the first message: no decision yet, no knowledge, a child with high support needs, unresolved funding, no suitable time, no energy for another call. None of these is a reason to wait — the call is free of charge and changes nothing about your situation.

Afterwards

What happens after the call

After the call you have access to your host-family area with videos, checklists and the au pair gallery. You can approach candidates if you want — several at once, too. The next step is up to you — at your own pace.

What you have afterwards

  • Access to your host-family area with your own login details
  • Videos on the process and the legal requirements
  • Checklists for the first consultation call, a weekly plan and family rules
  • Access to the au pair gallery, where you may approach as many candidates as you wish
  • The option to get back in touch in weeks or months

How it continues

  • The call takes place by phone or online — from your sofa.
  • We only get in touch if you want us to.
  • You have as much time as you need.
  • The call and getting to know each other are free of charge.
  • Whether it works out in the end is decided during the getting-to-know-each-other phase — we tell you that openly.

Costs arise once you give the placement order. Until you do, the process of getting to know each other is free of charge for you. What applies from then on — amounts, when they fall due, and the conditions — is set out in full on Costs and in our Terms and Conditions.

What applies if it turns out not to work later on is set out in the Frequently Asked Questions.

Team

Who you speak to

Evening hours are not an extra: many parents only get a quiet moment once the children are asleep and therapy appointments are over.

First call: one of 4 team members · Melanie Matl accompanies families from the decision for an au pair onwards.

Questions about the call

What does the call cost?

Nothing. The consultation call is free of charge, and you sign nothing on that day. Getting to know each other also costs you nothing: costs only arise once you give us the placement order. All amounts and the conditions attached to them are set out on Costs and in our Terms and Conditions.

Is the call binding?

No. You sign nothing, you commit to nothing, and you get no deadline. You can also cancel the appointment without explaining yourself.

Who conducts the call?

One of four team members. Melanie Matl founded the agency and accompanies families after the decision for an au pair; she does not conduct the initial contact. More on About us.

Do we need to fill in the questionnaire beforehand?

It should be filled in before the call. The reason is not a formal one: once family details, living situation and preferred period are already settled, the twenty minutes are left for your child. You get the link in a second email, right after the appointment confirmation.

What if we do not know anything yet?

Then you are in the right place. You need no prior knowledge, no documents and no prepared questions. The second part of the call exists precisely to explain how a placement works.

Can you advise us on funding?

No. We are a placement agency, not an advice centre. We can point to the possibility of the Persönliches Budget (personal budget, a German disability-support allowance), nothing more. For thorough, independent advice, contact the EUTB (Ergänzende unabhängige Teilhabeberatung, an independent participation advice service).

All further questions are set out on Frequently Asked Questions.

Independent advice on funding

The Ergänzende unabhängige Teilhabeberatung (EUTB, an independent participation advice service) advises free of charge, independently of funding bodies and independently of us. Find a service near you at teilhabeberatung.de (external link, German only). We explain what the Persönliches Budget is on Persönliches Budget.

Go to whichever advice centre you feel comfortable with — the EUTB is one route, not the only one.
