Visa and entry
What happens if the au pair then stays in Germany for an FSJ (a voluntary social year) or vocational training (Ausbildung)?
Short answer
If the au pair wants to stay in Germany for an FSJ (a voluntary social year) or Ausbildung (vocational training) after their au pair year, they must independently and in good time find a suitable place.

What lies behind it
As soon as an FSJ contract or Ausbildung (vocational training) contract is in place, the au pair must contact the relevant Ausländerbehörde (local immigration authority) at their current place of residence in good time and apply for a change in the purpose of stay, or a new Aufenthaltstitel (residence title).
Among other things, the relevant FSJ or Ausbildung contract must be submitted for this. If the new Aufenthaltstitel (residence title) is granted, the au pair can move directly into the FSJ or Ausbildung once their au pair time ends.
