As soon as you are registered
As a registered host family you get your own area. It holds our personal au pair suggestions, the unsolicited applications of interested au pairs and the entire au pair gallery. In addition there are guides for getting to know each other, templates for everyday life, checklists for arrival and visits to the Ausländerbehörde (immigration office), as well as information videos. The area opens as soon as your host family profile has been activated.

What is in the host family area?
After registering, your personal host family area opens up to you. There you will find our agency suggestions, speculative applications from au pairs and the full au pair gallery with photos, profiles and introduction videos. In addition, information videos, checklists, templates and conversation guides are available to you.
How does getting to know au pairs work?
After the consultation call, you get access to your personal host family area. There you can get to know all currently available au pairs in our au pair gallery. If you like an au pair, you can contact them directly via WhatsApp and arrange a personal video call. This way you get to know each other calmly before making a decision.
What requirements must our family meet?
To become a host family, you must meet the status of a family: as a married couple with at least one child under 18, or as a single parent with at least one child under 18 in the household. At least one parent must hold German citizenship. The au pair also needs their own furnished room in the family's household or in the immediate vicinity. Important: for a placement through Besondere Sterne, your child does not need a specific diagnosis, and you do not need to provide us with any proof of a disability.
How do we know an au pair fits our child?
Be as honest as possible when getting to know each other. Describe not only the good days but also the challenging situations in your everyday family life. The better an au pair knows in advance what to expect, the better both sides can judge whether it really fits.
What do we need to prepare before arrival?
Before arrival, above all the au pair's room should be fully prepared, the family's most important routines clarified, and all organisational matters for the first few days planned. No need to worry: all host families registered with us receive a detailed checklist for this, so that nothing important is forgotten before arrival.
