What families ask us about the costs
Who pays for the journey to the country?
The au pair bears the cost of the flight ticket. The host family ensures collection from the airport.
Who pays for the language course?
The host family pays a statutory Sprachkurszuschuss (contribution to the language course) of €70 a month. If the chosen course is more expensive, this is discussed with the au pair — the au pair then bears the extra cost themselves.
How does the au pair get to the language course?
How the au pair gets to the language course and to cultural events is up to you. Many families use the Deutschlandticket for €58 a month for this. On foot, by bike or by car works just as well.
Who pays for admission on joint outings?
On the au pair's private outings — cinema, museum, theme park — they pay the admission fee themselves. The family pays for the journey there.
What does the au pair pay for out of their Taschengeld?
Personal purchases such as clothing, cosmetics or technology are covered by the au pair from their Taschengeld.
