02 Personal advice for your family

Your free introductory consultation

We look for the au pair who suits your family, together with you.

Your free introductory consultation

In the personal consultation, everything centres on you: your family, your everyday life and the individual needs of your child.

Before the appointment, you receive our family questionnaire. This lets us build a picture of your family situation in advance, so the conversation can focus on your personal questions, wishes and challenges.

The conversation is led by a mother of a child with a disability, who knows your everyday life from her own experience and lives with an au pair placed through Besondere Sterne herself.

Together we look at what support you would like for your everyday life, and which au pair might suit your family.

Questions about the placement

How does getting to know au pairs work?

After the consultation call, you get access to your personal host family area. There you can get to know all currently available au pairs in our au pair gallery. If you like an au pair, you can contact them directly via WhatsApp and arrange a personal video call. This way you get to know each other calmly before making a decision.

How do we know an au pair fits our child?

Be as honest as possible when getting to know each other. Describe not only the good days but also the challenging situations in your everyday family life. The better an au pair knows in advance what to expect, the better both sides can judge whether it really fits.

How much time do we have to decide?

As long as you need – there is no fixed deadline for the selection process. Some families decide within a few days, others need several weeks. What matters is only this: start the active search once you are genuinely ready to decide on an au pair.

How well does an au pair speak German?

The legal requirement for an au pair visa is German language skills of at least A1 level. That is the first language stage, so do not expect fluent German at the start. Some of our au pairs already have A2, B1 or even B2 skills. You will find the respective language level directly in the au pair profile.

Which countries do our au pairs come from?

Our au pairs currently come mainly from India, in particular from Kerala, as well as from various African countries such as Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya. We also place au pairs from Indonesia. Which countries of origin are currently represented can change again and again, depending on applicant numbers and the availability of Botschaftstermine (appointments at the German embassy).
