Preparation begins already in the home country
Our au pairs are prepared in a targeted way for their time in Germany and for life in a family with a child with a disability already before they leave their home country.
This includes a compulsory internship (Pflichtpraktikum), our digital au pair academy with knowledge tests, as well as regular live calls with experienced coaches.
It is not only about theoretical knowledge, but above all about everyday family life: what does it mean to become part of a family as an au pair? What support is expected? How does communication succeed? And what can matter in everyday life with a child with a disability?
So we lay a good foundation for the shared au pair year already before arrival.

What preparation involves

Attitude and experience
A clear commitment to inclusion and practical experience with children with disabilities are a condition, not a bonus.

Compulsory internship
Before departure every applicant completes a compulsory internship (Pflichtpraktikum) with children with disabilities — accompanied, with proof in the profile.

Online academy and knowledge tests
Training courses in the online au pair academy, each with a knowledge test. Plus online cooking and craft workshops for everyday life with children.

Support until departure
Weekly live calls with experienced coaches for all au pairs in their home country, as training and preparation for life in a family with a child with a disability.

Compulsory proof before departure
Every au pair provides us with a police clearance certificate (polizeiliches Führungszeugnis) and a medical health certificate. Without this proof, no one departs.
Questions about preparation
Does the au pair receive a certificate?
Yes. Before departure, we give you confirmation that your au pair has fully completed the preparation according to our standards. This includes the compulsory internships, the au pair academy and participation in the preparatory live calls. The au pair itself receives a certificate on successful completion.
Do au pairs provide a police certificate of good conduct?
Yes. All our au pairs provide a Führungszeugnis (police certificate of good conduct) from their home country before departure. For many au pairs, this is not yet on file in the profile when you first get to know them, because it is often only applied for after matching with a host family.
Is there a medical certificate?
Yes. Every au pair provides a Gesundheitszeugnis (health certificate) before departure. To obtain it, the au pair has a medical examination in its home country by a doctor, following our template. The issued Gesundheitszeugnis is then filed in the au pair profile and can be viewed by the host family.
How well does an au pair speak German?
The legal requirement for an au pair visa is German language skills of at least A1 level. That is the first language stage, so do not expect fluent German at the start. Some of our au pairs already have A2, B1 or even B2 skills. You will find the respective language level directly in the au pair profile.
Which tasks are not part of the au pair role?
An au pair supports your family with childcare and with light household tasks connected to the children. However, they are not a substitute for a care worker or a skilled professional, nor for a cleaner or housekeeper. Care, giving medication and therapeutic treatments are not part of an au pair's tasks. Professional or thorough cleaning of the household is also not an au pair activity.
