Living together and settling in

What do we need to prepare before arrival?

Short answer

Before arrival, above all the au pair's room should be fully prepared, the family's most important routines clarified, and all organisational matters for the first few days planned. No need to worry: all host families registered with us receive a detailed checklist for this, so that nothing important is forgotten before arrival.

What lies behind it

Arriving in a new country and a still-unfamiliar family is a big step for an au pair. It is all the nicer when they notice, from the very first moment, that they were expected and that a place has been prepared for them.

This naturally includes a fully furnished, move-in-ready au pair room. But small personal gestures can also make arriving easier - for example a small welcome gift or a prepared toiletries basket for the first few days.

As a host family, you can also think ahead about the first few days, your weekly schedule, and the most important family rules and routines. That way, not everything has to be explained and organised all at once right after arrival.

To help you think of everything, we provide our registered host families with a detailed checklist for preparing for arrival. In it, you will find the most important organisational points as well as practical ideas around the au pair's room, the first few days, and a warm welcome.
