Choosing and getting to know an au pair

How much time do we have to decide?

Short answer

As long as you need – there is no fixed deadline for the selection process. Some families decide within a few days, others need several weeks. What matters is only this: start the active search once you are genuinely ready to decide on an au pair.

Our tip for the selection process

Before you start the search, take the time you need. Look at our information and videos, hold your consultation call and think together as a family: are we ready for an au pair? What matters to us? And do we really want to start now?

Once your family profile has been created and you begin getting to know au pairs, we recommend approaching the search actively and with a clear focus. Get to know interesting au pairs promptly by video call and then stay in touch.

The reason is simple: good au pairs are getting to know other families at the same time. If you get to know an au pair today and only get back in touch a week or two later, it is possible that it has decided on another host family in the meantime.

This does not mean you should decide under pressure. On the contrary: you may hold several conversations and take the time you need for a good decision. We simply recommend only beginning the concrete search once you as a family are genuinely ready for it.

Throughout the whole selection process we are available for your questions and will also get in touch with you in between if we can support you in your search.
