Can an au pair look after a child with a disability who is over 18?

Why the age in years counts

What matters here is the actual age in years, not the child's developmental stage.

Even if a young adult with a disability has, for example, the developmental stage of a four-year-old and continues to need extensive support in everyday life, care can no longer take place within an au pair arrangement once they turn 18.

This is not a rule set by our agency but part of the legal framework of the au pair programme. An exception due to a disability or a lower developmental stage is therefore unfortunately not possible.
