Arrival and authorities
When should the au pair arrive?
Short answer
Choose a calm week in your everyday family life for the arrival. Major trips, hospital stays, intensive therapy weeks or other special commitments right after arrival make settling in unnecessarily difficult.

What lies behind it
Allowing time to settle in
Ideally, the first few days after arrival should leave some time for getting to know each other. Show your au pair the home, the surroundings and the most important routines in your family at a calm pace.
Where possible, plan for two to three days of settling-in time before the normal au pair routine begins. This gives your au pair a chance to arrive after the journey, and lets you start into the new routine together, step by step.
