What updates do we get during the visa process?
Short answer
You automatically receive an email from us for every important status update – for example, when the documents have been forwarded to the partner agency, the Botschaftstermin (the appointment at the German embassy) is coming up, the visa has been granted, or the arrival can be planned.
For the individual steps, your personal host family area also contains short information videos explaining what is currently happening and how things continue.

What lies behind it
During visa processing
Once the au pair has submitted their documents at the Botschaftstermin, the actual visa processing begins. Depending on the country of origin, this usually takes around 2 to 6 Wochen.
During this time, it is mainly a matter of waiting. If needed, a status enquiry can be requested from the ZAV while the process is under way.
As soon as the visa has been granted, we let you know. After that, we work together with the au pair to plan and book the arrival.
